China: Trade Data Modestly Constructive (Do Other Emerging Markets Matter?)

  • The monthly CPI inflation data for September was unremarkable in that it was both well within comfort-range for policymakers (1.9% year-on-year) and as expected: it will not alter the views of the economy held at the central bank.
  • Thus, the policymakers’ focus remains entirely on reversing real GDP’s growth slowdown, following the tried and tested strategy of pulling the public-sector-investment lever, financing the increased spending largely by faster credit growth by state-owned banks.
