Congressional leadership sat down with president Trump this week to discuss a potentially massive $2 trillion infrastructure plan.  While no details about the plan were available, there is more interest in getting something done after two years of inaction.  The White House would like a plan because it would fulfill one of Trump’s major campaign pledges of 2016.  Democrats in Congress have been more receptive than Republicans to past plans.  For Democrats, more construction spending means more jobs and would allow them to focus on something other than impeachment in preparing for the 2020 election.  Republican leadership has been worried about the costs and implied expansion of big government and giving the Democrats a “win.”
