New Home Sales: A Lid on Starts?

October new home sales are disappointing, slipping a relatively slight 0.3% (Consensus: -0.8%; Decision Economics: -1.8%), but from a prior-month level revised down by 5.1%.  Whether that lower rate of sales will put downward pressure on starts of single family houses–and on employment and the residential-construction contribution to GDP–is now an issue.
