China’s Inflation Data: Will it Affect Policy?

  • Annual CPI inflation in June was higher than in May, and higher than expected: 2.7% versus Consensus estimates of 2.5%.  Does this small increase matter?  In short: no.  The movement is only marginal, inflation is well below the point where it could presumably challenge policymakers’ view of price pressures, and secondary in terms of their primary concerns at this time.
