CPI and Jobless claims: No surprises
The January consumer price index meets expectations, rising 0.1% (Consensus: +0.1%; DE: unch) with the core, ex-food-and-energy, index slowing to +0.1% (Consensus and Decision Economics: +0.1%) from +0.1% in December. The year-over-year rates both came in at 1.6%. That rate represents a deceleration in the core figure from the 1.7% pace posted from September through December.
