Housing Starts: Some Strength, and Favorable Weather

Posted January 21, 2015 by rvillareal

December housing starts are firmer than expected, rising 4.4% to 1.089 million (Consensus: +1.3% to 1.041 million; DE: +1.7%), with favorable revisions to prior months (October level boosted by 4.5%, and November by 1.5%) painting a better picture of activity in the quarter, albeit with upward revisions almost entirely concentrated in the multi-family sector. December gains were fully accounted for by single-family building.
