Payrolls Weak but not THAT weak; +142K private; weather no factor; strong household survey
DE assessment: January payrolls were weak, rising 113K workers compared to a slightly revised gain of 75K in December. But the report was not that weak, as private hiring rose 142K, a sizeable improvement from 89K in December. And the household survey was quite strong with a rise in hiring and labor force participation. Weather was not a factor, the end of extended UI assistance had little effect, and a spate of revisions held few surprises.
