January payroll employment meets expectations, rising 157,000 (Consensus: +160,000; Decision Economics: +170,000), but slows considerably relative to upward-revised recent monthly increases–which put the December gain at 196,000, rather than 155,000, and November’s at 247,000, instead of 161,000.
